Early Childhood Development Center–Mawalgama, Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha

Beginning: – (History)

This pre-school was started by Mrs. Violet Rupasinghe in 1972 under the control of the village council in a building of the Roman Catholic school in Mawalgama. After Mrs. Violet Rupasinghe, Mrs. Allen Rosie Rupasinghe served from 1978 to 1982 and Mrs. H.P. Vimalawathi also served from 1982 to 05.06.2006.

With the inception of Pradeshiya Sabhas The administrative activities are done by the pradeshiya sabha and this school which doesn’t have a permanent building was brought to a building where constructed in the Mawalgama playground which belongs to Pradeshiya Sabha in 1996.

These pre-schools have been established to provide relief to the economy of the rural masses who cannot spend a lot of money on education in this time where they have to spend a lot of money on the education of their children.

Mawalgama Early Childhood Development Center of Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha is the only institution which provides education for the children in the Western Province at no cost.

Services provided:-

  • Provide a safe, fertile and conducive environment to gain experience from the organs.
  • Guiding them to speak pleasantly and making them practices to develop good and polite manners through daily activities
  • Guiding them to good health habits
  • Providing a conductive environment to increase good qualities
  • Provide opportunities for physical development and Manipulator skills development

  • Developing the ability to face challengeable situations
  • Guiding them to love, evaluate and protect the environment.
  • Building a friendly environment to make the children to act with coexistence
  • Allowing the child to enjoy early childhood fun and happy

  • Providing opportunity for the children to get experiences by watching Animal farm, Marketplace, Vegetables, fruit, Farm, Harvesting, paddy cultivation, paddy sowing and animals frequently seen in the environment
  • Making arrangements to climb and get down a small mountain
  • Conducting a Market
  • Organizing religious programs for Vesak festival
  • Conducting a Dansala (alms giving) for the Poson Festival
  • Conducting the Seela program
  • Conducting the Perahera
  • Commemoration of World Children’s Day and Adult Day
  • Conducting the year end concert
  • Sending children to the dental clinic
